Update 2016
The editor in the app includes these templates Edit>New Song>
Blank
32 Measures AABA
32 Measures AABC
48 Measures (4 bars in each system top to bottom)
96 Measures (8 bars in each system top to bottom)

For new songs, I usually start with the 48 bar template adding time-sig, repeat brackets, rehearsal marks double bar lines, endings etc. and chords as I go.
Don't forget title, composer(!) and style info.
When I'm finished, I highlight and cut any unused measures at the bottom.

Templates

Here some templates for typical layouts I have been using with correct barlines and form.

They can be easily modified.
Mac editor: you can use key commands to insert beats (cmd-\) or delete beats (cmd-delete) and create an opening (left) single barline (cmd-B) or closing (cmd-Shift-B). For repeats of a section (like ABA) use the copy/paste commands for the second A (if is is a little different, be sure to make the edits!)

iReal Book: tap the Symbols tab then select either Insert beat or Delete beat.

All start with the word "Temp" so you can find them grouped together in iReal book index. Choose Edit a copy of song to retain the template for further use.

12 bar blues form: (no rehearsal symbol used)
Temp.Blues by Unknown Composer

A section with 1st and 2nd time bars, B section then A section, complete with final barline:
Temp.A12 B A by Unknown Composer

as above with intro:
Temp.In A12 B A by Unknown Composer

A, B, A, C form:
Temp.A B A C by Unknown Composer

as above with intro:
Temp.In A B A C by Unknown Composer

A, B, C, A form:
Temp.A B C A by Unknown Composer

as above with intro:
Temp.In A B C A by Unknown Composer

A section 16 bars; B section 8 bars with double barline at end (not final):
Temp.A16 B8 by Unknown Composer

as above with intro:
Temp.In A16 B8 by Unknown Composer

Templates...

Hi Craig,
Here's an alternate version of a 32 bar AABA form using repeat bars and 1st and 2nd endings:

Tempate 32 bars AABA (alt) by Unknown Composer

I made my own templates by entering a series of "blank" songs in my iPod tune list. It only took me a few minutes. Each has only plain bar lines (except for the start) I can choose which song to "edit a copy of..." and start with a blank tune containing 12, 16, 20, 28, 32, (or 64 2-beat bars). I decide, based on how I want to present the tune and its length, which template to select, then fill in the chords, and easily add rehearsal marks, repeat bars and endings wherever appropriate. Then I quickly delete any left over bar lines.

I added a "z" to the beginning of the "title" of each of my templates " so they are all conveniently filed at the bottom of my main alpha menu. You could also use a playlist for templates so they'd all be in one place.

irb is really easy and useful.

060-8bar-Chords-iRb - Chord Chart

Thanks! for trying them out.
Used the 60 chords from the iReal b Editor here in their drop down order to create a chord chart.
Posted as Medium Swing style but here I use Pop- Disco style with the Drums and Bass volume lowered 50%
Slowed down and with the piano grid to learn piano chords. Guitarist here. New to piano playing.

I hope you do not mind Dave, I moved it into this thread since others seem to find it useful (the Sandbox is for temporary posts.)

now there's a useable template. thnx Craig!
I still have to revert to that Android emulator on my W81 laptop, but now I finally can use and put to use this iReal thing all my gj friends are so enthusiastic about.
