Last iReal Pro update running in Linux Mint Zara

Hello, I have been using IReal for many years, first on my smartphone and tablet, and in the last two years I have been using it on my laptop with Linux Mint. For a long time I have been using Real Pro under the virtual environment with the Waydroid emulator without any problems, but after installing the latest update of iReal a few weeks ago it stopped working with waydroid. Since then I have been trying many combinations until I got it to work correctly on my laptop with Linux Mint Zara. I will explain how I did it.

Since I could not get it to work with Waydroid I chose to install Genymotion and create a virtual machine to my liking, but the virtual machine would not start in the normal Linux Mint environment either, so I close the session and tried to open in the experimental Wayland environment and here it started to work better.

But I had to continue experimenting and adjust the Genymotion configuration a lot. With VirtualBox it didn't run well enough, it was slow and I switched to the Qemu Hypervisor and it works perfectly. I also had to configure my virtual machine with an older version of Android since I don't have many resources on my laptop and Ireal didn't run well either, so I configured the virtual machine with Android 9 and now everything works correctly. I only use Ireal Pro and Whatssap to share the songs that we edit.

So in summary, for the latest version of Ireal Pro to work for me with Linux Mint Zara:

- Log in to the experimental Wayland environment (Brave browser doesn't work)
- Install Genymotion.
- Choose Qemu Hypervisor
- Create a virtual machine with RAM and Cores according to the resources of your PC
- Install Android 9 (in my case). Maybe with a better computer it works with a higher version.
- Install GAPPS to be able to install IReal from Google.

I hope this works for you as you have the same problem as me with Linux Mint Zara and the latest version of iReal Pro

If you have any questions you can ask me, I will try to help you if I can.

Cheers

Jordi

I, too, have been struggling with this issue. I use Ubuntu 24.04 and also had Ireal Pro working using Waydroid. It was working relatively well until I started having some issues a couple months back. I would have to attempt to start Ireal Pro several times before it would work. And then, suddenly, it just hung on the splash screen and would not start no matter how many times I tried. I do not remember if I updated the version of Ireal Pro or maybe even the version of the waydroid system files. I ended up losing my data files because I tried reinstalling Ireal Pro to fix the problem. Fortunately, I did not lose much.

Since then, I have tried older versions of the android system under waydroid and spoofing what the android device looks like. Nothing seems to work. Unfortunately, I cannot find an old version of the Ireal Pro app to try and there does not appear to be a way to revert to a prior version. It would be nice if that was possible.

I also tried Genymotion, but have not gone beyond actually starting a device. There does not appear to be a way to make the device screen larger than a real device so, to me, there is no reason to run on my laptop. I might just as well run on my phone and do away with the emulation software and its complexity. I am currently running on my phone and using the sound system on my PC through blue tooth. That seems to work fairly well.

I get the feeling the problem lies with the Google Play Store and Google Play Services. Even though I have registered my virtual device with Google, the Play Store still says my device is not certified although the play store runs fine and I am able to install Ireal Pro without any problems. It just will not run. I do not know if Play Store used to see my device as certified.

I did contact Ireal Pro support and they told me they do not support virtual device environments. But they did suggest that Google has been getting more strict on device certification and that could potentially cause an issue. Maybe that is what we are seeing. If that is the case, there may never be a fix or it may be a while before the Waydroid developers figure out how to spoof the machine well enough to make Google think the device is real.

At this point, I am just waiting for the day that a new version of either the Waydroid system comes out or a new version of Ireal Pro becomes available so I can see if anything is changed.

Hi, for me the problem becomes since the last iReal Pro update. I do't know if Ubuntu 24.4 have the possibility to start in Wayland session, I think it does in the prederminated mode. This is very important. You can try what I explain with genymotion. If you want a bigger screen size you must hoose in the machine model when you create it. For example I use Amazon Fire HD10, 1920x1200 you modify the screen size even you want. I installed Android 9 because higher It doesnt works for me. Just try it. You can ask me any question. GReatings.

OK. I will give that a shot when I get a chance.

Whether Wayland is supported or not depends upon the desktop in use. If I use my standard LXQT desktop, it is not and I have to start Waydroid in a Weston session. If I run on GNOME Classic, Wayland is supported. Either way, it does not seem to matter. The result is the same.

OK. I followed your instructions and was able to get Ireal Pro running although it is probably too stilted to play with.

So, now the question is why does it run under Genymotion and not Waydroid. Looking in the settings, the Play Store does not complain about the environment certification.

One difference I notice is that Genymotion installs Open Gapps instead of the Google Gapps. I may try reinstalling my Waydroid and use the Vanilla system and install Open Gapps to see if that fixes the problem. I would be pleasantly surprised if it did but that would be a relatively easy fix.
