Using D.C. al Coda ?

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to put together a beginners guitar playlist for my beginning guitar students, but I'm having a hell of a time navigating the editor.

Can you please help me fix the problem. The song I'm trying to chart is "Peggy Sue" by Buddy Holly. It's a long sone, and the format is as follows:

Intro
Verse 1 & 2
Chorus
Verse 3
Instrumental
Chorus
Verse 4
Outro

I've copied and pasted the file. Thank you so much for your help!!!

It does, though. I just finished a complex arrangement (more than 100 measures) of Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine," which I can't show you because it includes all the lyrics. All in one page, with no global repeats. This is a great app. Lotsa fun and it works. Addictive, though.

Oh, okay, Bob. I thought it might not be considered proper to get into a specific "how to" session like that out in the open. Sure, I'll go get it from the PM board and put it here; it's not that long:


"Hi, bpelham79-

"Well, the references that Bob sent you are the best way to get into this, I think.

"For your problem, you laid out your arrangement very clearly, and I began with an analysis of that:

Intro
Verse 1 & 2
Chorus
Verse 3
Instrumental
Chorus
Verse 4
Outro

"Look for repeated patterns. In your arrangement, you can see that right after the Instrumental, you want a Chorus 2 and Verse 4, which will be just like your Chorus 1 and Verse 3, so that tips you that right after the Instrumental you want to go back to the start of that first chorus (this time as Chorus 2) and play through Verse 3 again (this time as Verse 4). Then you want to kick out to the Outro. So, you put a Segno sign at the start of the Chorus, a D.S. al Coda at the end of the Instrumental, a Coda sign at the end of Verse 3 (which will only be effective when it plays as Verse 4), and a Coda sign where the Outro starts. This was really a pretty easy one, made that way because you expressed your arrangement so clearly.

I also added a bit about getting into the habit of entering double bar section dividers at the end of the section you're leaving, not just at the beginning of the next section because there are certain situations (involving endings) where that will make a critical difference during playback.

bpsrham79, i'm no expert at iReal Pro; i'm still learniing every day about this amazing app. Reason your original query caught my eye is that I posted a similar one seeking arrangement help myself as a newbie just two months ago. The experts here like Bob, dflat and others are still getting me straightened out. This is a great board.
