The title in Jazz 1300 Standards is My Secret Love, but I've only ever heard it called just Secret Love.

I never noticed that entry in the 1300. There is a work by Roger Vogel called "My Secret Love" which is completely different, but the chord changes on the iRP chart are for Sammy Fain's composition.

Thanks. In checking my mistake, I found something strange:

Yes, there is a composition called My Secret Love, by Roger Vogel, which is not a pop or jazz tune, but the setting of a poem for women's chorus, and the iReal Pro changes to My Secret Love are for a song by Sherwood and Parish (not Sammy Fain).

But it's even stranger:

The tune called simply Secret Love is by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster. But My Secret Love is by Bobby Sherwood and Mitchell Parish, and it's the same tune. Except for very minor differences in the opening chords, they are identical, with the same melody and the same harmonic structure.

They can be found on YouTube in many places. Here are just samples:

As you'll see, except for some extra chords in the A section of Secret Love, on iReal Pro it's the same as My Secret Love.

No wonder I was confused.

So not only did iReal Pro assign Roger Vogel's name incorrectly, but there seems to be a difference over who actually wrote the pop/jazz tune (My) Secret Love. Yet I haven't seen anything on the Web about a disputed copyright.

P.S. I also found that the Jamey Aebersold play-along version of the tune is My Secret Love, attributed to Parish and Sherwood, which uses the same changes as IRealpro's Secret Love. So it's not only me who is confused.

I figured out the repeat dilemma on My Secret Love. My Secret Love was not right, so I hunted and pecked around until it sounds like it should.

I'm 99.99% certain that the 1943 song "My Secret Love" by Bobby Sherwood and Mitchell Paris sounds nothing like the famous 1953 song "Secret Love" by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster. What seems to have happened (and is not uncommon) is that a production assistant somewhere along the way was researching composer credits for the 1953 song (possibly after being given the incorrect title "My Secret Love", which is a lyric in the song), found the copyright registration for the earlier, "not-famous" tune. I've seen this happen on both LP jacket liner notes and in fakebooks (I've seen a legally published lead sheet for the 1953 "Secret Love" carry the wrong composer/lyricist credits). It happens even with two songs that don't have titles that all that similar. People just do sloppy research, particularly back in the pre-internet era when this kind of information was harder to find.

The 1943 song has virtually no online presence in 2026, in terms of credits in the Discogs database, the SecondhandSongs database, or in any youtube video or other page that isn't featuring the 1953 song and incorrectly attributing it. If the 1953 song were influenced by the 1943 song, like George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" was influenced by "She's So Fine," there would almost certainly be some trace of a recording of the earlier song in Discogs.
