Keyboard shortcut to stop and restart song from beginning?

I suspect your only option is to STOP (try the "." period key) (not pause) and then PLAY. The player will construct a brand new track and then start after the count-in that you have configured.

AFAIK there is no way to return to the start of a song using only the keyboard. I use a bluetooth keyboard with my Macbook and I tend to put it to one side when I'm playing piano. Is there some technical reason why the 'Play' button cannot be activated by a key press? is the return key available?

Assuming Play has stopped, pressing the spacebar starts play from the beginning.
Spacebar while playing will pause. Period key (.) is stop play.
Is this what your keyboard does?

Are you referring to "returning to the beginning" meaning you expect the position indicate to highlight the first measure? (because it doesn't do this)
