ii - V- I

This maj 3rd cycle is one of 4 possible. Simply transpose up or down in half steps to cover all four. Good warm up for have you met miss jones and, perhaps,giant steps.

Maj 3rd Cycle by Joseph Cannavo

This is one of two ii v I descending in whole steps. Simply transpose 1/2 step to get other one. Enjoy!

And here is a workout on the bridge to Have You Met Miss Jones

And of course the chorus...

Coltrane II-V-Is

Anyone wanting to practise Coltrane subs on II-V-Is should load up Countdown.

The tune is Trane's reharm of Tune Up (which I prefer to credit to Eddie Vinson, rather than Miles).

The original key is Bb, and the tune uses II-V-Is in D, C and Bb. Transpose to Db, E and G, and you'll have practised Trane subs in all keys.

Minor and Tyner

Minor Blues by Impromptu

Bit more idiomatic for hard-bop era things like Mr PC.

And this:

Trane/Tyner Blues by Impromptu

For that slabby, '60s modal vibe. Trane and Tyner used this template very freely - try treating each dominant as a sus chord, or focusing on pentatonic scales and planing up and down by semitones. Actually, as long as you hit the landmark chords in bars 1, 5, 7 and 11, just about anything goes in-between!

Thanks, this is very useful.

* ii7b5 - v7b9 -i exercise bar 12-13' should be Bb instead of B

Yep, noticed that after I posted it. I put these in the sandbox, but someone must have moved them here. Thanks for alerting players of that. Probably threw someone off :)
