iOS and OSX separate purchases?! Do we have to pay twice?

Hi,

I've already purchased the iOS version of ireal Pro, as well as quite a few in-app purchases.
Do I really need to pay $24.99 just to use the app on my Mac under the same iTunes account, or am I missing something...?

Confused...

Yes it runs on a different OS and processor. Also the layout (GUI) is different, key commands, right-click menus etc. So although the songs and playlists can be transferred between iOS and Mac (and Android versions) of iReal Pro, the underlying code for each is not the same.
Note that the Mac version has the 30 styles built-in. Editing and creating new songs is much faster because of the layout, key commands etc.

Buying for IPAD doesn't let use on Macbook???

Unlike Onsong and other cross platform apps, IrealPro doesn't allow you to use your Ipad "Purchase" to install on Macbook. Am I missing something? They elaborate and say they are two different systems, yet other apps have figured out how to make customer feel appreciated by not gouging and squeezing money out of their pockets. Tell me I'm wrong please....

Index, moderators, please tell us that iRealPro has grown up and no longer charges enthusiasts twice for using iRealPro. It’s 2019 already and this is not really the way to keep your users loyal.

iReal Pro has no control over nor Apple's, nor Google's billing. Apple's App Store for iOS and Mac App Store for Mac are separate stores.
Please request a bundle solution from Apple, we have done the same but they haven't implemented it yet.
OnSong only has an iOS version and had a Mac console which was not the same app and it's been discontinued.

Does this double-charging include the style packs? If I paid $3.99 for the Blues Pack on Mac do I have to pay for it again for my iOS devices?

Yes you do need to purchase it, sorry. Apple keep the two App stores separated (even though you are using the one Apple account).

While this is absurd on Apples part, I wonder if marzipan would change anything about this? Do payment modalities change when the iPad app is ported to macOS 10.15 via marzipan?

Plans to support universal purchases for macOS and iOS and how would it be handled?

Hey Massimo and team,

thanks so much for your software. They are a real gem and it is great to see you have come such a long way and the software is doing well - or at least any jazz musician around me is using it.

Are there plans to support universal purchases so that with a single purchase iOS and macOS would be covered? And if yes, would it be possible for users already owning iReal on either platform to jump that train with a discount?

Keep it up and thanks again for this useful tool.

Apple recently introduced universal purchases between iOS and macOS but this only applies to new software releases.I would have to remove the current Mac version from the Mac App Store and re-upload it as new version of the app as part of a universal bundle with the iOS version.
This would be bad for us on two fronts: we would loose all users reviews and download numbers and we would loose all revenue from the Mac app that we spent years building and still regularly update and maintain.
More importantly though, it would be bad for existing users who purchased for the Mac version on the Mac App Store as they would loose access to future updates.

This move from Apple is to encourage iOS app developers to make a Mac version of the app since the Mac has seen a decline in the number and the quality of software released by third party developers in recent years. Apple added a technology in macOS Catalina called Catalyst that allows to run "almost" unmodified version of iOS apps on the Mac.

There is another option we are hoping Apple will start supporting and that is App-Bundles. Currently if a developer has multiple iOS apps in the App Store, they can be bundled together and sold for a discounted price. As Apple is slowly converging the Mac and iOS App Stores, we are hoping that they will soon allow for App-Bundles to work across platforms so that we could offer a discounted version of iReal Pro for Mac to existing users of iReal Pro of iOS and vice-versa.
This would be the best option for existing users and for us to be able to keep staying in business and update the app regularly with new features and for compatibility with the latest versions of iOS and macOS.

Catalyst only runs on Catalina and up. Also, it would take me weeks or months of work to get it to work correctly (it's not just check a box like Apple advertises) and it wouldn't be as good as the current Mac version. 70-80% of our user base wouldn't be able to use it because of Catalina and those who did get the automatic update suddenly would have to learn a new app after years of using the current version. On top of all this my revenue go down now that the price if the iOS version includes the Mac version. It doesn't seem like a win for anybody.

Is there some mechanism to get a discount on the second purchase? I don't know if the App Store lets you do that, but if I buy the Mac version, perhaps you could send a one-time code for the iOS version, and vice versa.

one or two licenses?

i just bought ireal pro for iphone and i have the bad surprise of not being able to use it on a mac computer? it refuses the license number that i was given! is it necessary to have a license per device? thank you for your help
