How to make a note sustain into the next bar...?

Hi all!

How do I make a note hold for a bar without it playing on the first note of the final bar?

E.g. this is from the end of the chorus of The Weight by The Band: |D Dsus2 D| - I want the final D to hold a bar before going back into the verse. I don't want to put a D at the beginning of the last bar because I don't want it to play; it sounds wrong.

The usual way to extend (tie) across a barline is to start the next measure with a slash (/). Then enter the next chord where it belongs.
Bar Repeat Signs, Slash, N-C- - Example - Example

However, the slash may cause the held chord to sound, which you want to avoid.
Another “hack” might be to change the time-sig of the 1st bar (to make it longer) and alter the time sig on the next bar (to shorten it a like amount) then, reset the following (3rd) bar to the original time-sig.

The player algorithm is different for different styles and will vary what it does on each repetition…rarely the same way, so what you desire may not be achievable with the iRp player.

Please let us know what you learn.

Thanks, Bob - the slash didn't work but I'm fiddling around with the break-tacet function and changing time signatures now.

I'm putting a chart together for The Weight, with its "...put the load right on me" bit where the instruments drop out for two bars. I'll post a version when done.
