Chord changes on half beats/up beats

Anyone who can help,
How do I edit a song like 'Sugar' where the V chord comes in on the 'and' of '4'?
Thank you.

Short answer, no. Currently iRp doesn’t offer coding for reading or playing anticipations or chords on the “and”. At least not an easy way.

Some members have used Unicode characters to tell the musician what to do; that doesn’t work across all platforms, may interfere with song code and is not recommended.

A way has been demonstrated to use multiple time signatures to force the iRp player to play on the “off” beat. Really inventive, but non-intuitive to enter and impossible (for me) to easily read.

In summary, not ready for prime-time.

Yes, it’s definitely possible! In iReal Pro, you can insert a chord on the “and” of a beat by using the slash notation. For example, if you want a chord change on the second half of a beat, you can enter it as C/G or D7/F# depending on the desired voicing.

Another approach is to use the chord grid editor: tap on the measure where you want the change, then insert the new chord at the exact subdivision. It may take a little trial and error to line it up perfectly with the half-beat, but once you get the hang of it, it works smoothly.

Experiment with these options, and your progressions will sound much more rhythmically precise!

I tried this with sugar, but it didn’t really work. I made stretched the bar to give it eight edit points instead of just four. Theoretically giving you the upbeat. I’m not familiar with the chart really or these changes so not sure exactly what you’re going for but maybe you can use this method to get what you are looking for. Although it’s not gonna look good for a reading chart.

So making eight edit points didn’t seem to work to get the upbeat , but if you just want it on the downbeat of beat 4 that works, but then it plays the downbeat of beat 1 in the next bar . I don’t think that’s what you want. We want to be able to tie The two chords
So you can get it to sound like that by using a 3/4 and5/4 .. see the differences between the first ending and the second ending
