Autumn Leaves - Joseph Kosma

So that I understand what I did wrong, from the links you posted, my post should have been under the Jazz forum for the existing Autumn Leaves song thread?

I had gone through this thread but it didn't really fit (Clapton's version is a bit different than what had been posted and he is usually considered a blues/rock player). Sorry for that.

From the guidelines:
Share different versions of already posted tunes (arrangements, alternate changes, reharms, "as played by's" etc.) in the discussion thread for that song.

Did you mean to post a chart?

No, not at that time. I was asking to see if it had already been done (as I had not found that version yet). And if it had not been done, I would take a stab at trying to enter it myself.

We look forward to your chart.

You may find it easier to start with a duplicate of an existing chart, reset and transpose the default key to Bm, then edit the chords as needed and set player tempo and style. Then post it here.

Thanks
Our goal for forum discussion is not just to arrive at (and only post) a "correct" chart, but rather to show the process and help current and future users get better at it.

To that end I have a question on whitespace in the song format. Does the application care or is it only driven by barlines? My sheet isn't exactly pretty.

Go ahead and post it. Easier to edit an example with you than to speak in generalities.

I did post it (see a couple of messages back). That sheet for Clapton's Autumn Leaves seems busy and crowded; not exactly pretty.

rKeeling75,

Hi. I looked over your chart. The chords are excellent, but the sections are divided incorrectly and the labeling of them is confusing.

There is no Verse in this arrangement. And I think it's more helpful to label the sections "VOCALS" and "INSTRUMENTALS," rather than use the general term "Interlude."

I hope you don't mind, but in the spirit of constructive criticism I'm posting a corrected version. I hope this helps.

Thanks Jer,
Excellent, clear chart. Easy to follow and understand.

My goals for iRp chart lay-out:
1. make it as easy as possible for the musician to sight-read it (ready, set, go)
2. make it work properly in the player
3. make it look nice (square and even)
4. make it fit on one page

Intentionally using "unrecognized" chords to "force" the player to default to bass-only suggests another interesting and musical tool to use with the player in addition to |chord NC | And | chord /x /x /x | or | NC | /x /x /x /x |
(Stop-time and faux bass-line)

This may provide a new way to add some "PeterGunn-like" phrasing in charts.

When the Error message displays, just hit OK.

Gunn-like - Example

Like I said....inventive.

Keep in mind that using tricks that aren’t hard-coded as player features may not always give expected results.

IvoRocha,

Hi. Your chart is very clean and correct, but it has no real ending.

The simplest ending would be on the first beat of the last bar. But that bar contains the turnaround chord of G7b9 rather than the tonic of Gm.

I suggest adding a coda sign on the next to last bar, adding a coda bar with Gm, and marking it with the END command.

Cheers,
Jer
