Feature requests

The new in app guitar chord looks great! Have you considered a similar in app feature for ukulele (GCEA)?

Thanks for the great app,

Ted

I LOVE the new MIDI export! I just have a small request (it's never enough, is it - sorry..) Can you give us the option to save to disk like you do with WAV files? It's a lot faster for me to copy from iTunes than to email and extract. Thanks.

BTW, I also want to thank you for the tap-hold start anywhere, it's saving TONS of development time...

Thanks for the great app! I'm a novice guitar player rather than a performing muscian and I have thought of a couple of features that would help speed up the learning process:

1) It would be really helpful to have the guitar chord diagram come up when I tap a chord on the page.
2) I like that the program tends to cycle through different versions of the chords, but it would also be nice to be able to turn this off so I can focus on one particular set of chords at a time.
3) It would be awesome if there were an air print option to print out a PDF of the chord diagrams for all of the chords in the song. So bascially if there are 4 chords in the song. You would hit the button and be able to print a PDF of the guitar (or piano) chord diagrams for those four chords. It would be really great if there were an option that asked if you wanted to print multiple variations, which would include the alternate positions that the app cycles through.

Anyway, just a wish list.

Thank you for the great app!

I think this is still an outstanding issue... I would really, REALLY like to be able to simply have a metronome rather than the canned Jazz/Latin/Pop styles. I play the bass with old-time music, and the default styles are simply unusable for me. The playback feature is severely crippled if there's no audible reference. If I turn down the drums and so forth that clash with the simple I-V beat, there is basically no audio left.

A simple metronome should be available, either as one of the available styles or as a configuration setting that plays it in conjunction with a style (which should give the option of 'no style' in the menu, allowing one to just have the metronome).

This seems to be a rather longstanding request. The forced styles (without a simple beat) is really my only disappointment with this app.

Have you tried the style Jazz>Practice without piano and bass volume?
I have tried the three basic styles with the piano and drums turned down (to no avail), but I haven't specifically used Jazz>Practice because I don't have any additional style packs. I had read some reference to doing things like you mention, but it sounded like a sort of workaround. Plus, it's a bit odd to have to buy an additional style pack to escape from using styles! :)

I'm asking that the metronome be part of the core functionality. Let styles be styles. I was hoping for a simple 'step through the chords' app, which is where IRB seems to have gotten its roots.

EDIT: to clarify the last point about leaving the metronome independent of the style; one might want both. I can envision a future style that plays a simple I-V bass line, but a beginner might still want the metronome on top of it to help learn the timing.

I have a request for half-time/straight time jazz swing - similar to the Latin/Jazz, but half-time bass & drium groove. This would work quite well as a brush kit, so I will expand the request:

I'd like a jazz brush Style pack - half-time to straight, an various straight variations like the Jazz pack with sticks. Maybe a brush to stick style.

Thanks, love this app!

Double-tap to show control box

Thanks for continuing to make iRealB a fantastic software for musicians. The new play/loop and chord chart features are super useful! When I'm practicing with the playback feature, I like to alternate between "practice" and a style mode. It would be nice to be able to double-tap or three-finger tap any place on the viewing screen and be able to pull up the control box (vs having to each time double-finger tap and then tap the music note symbol to pull up the control box). Thanks in advance for you consideration!

Volume slider and funk pattern please!

Please can you add an on screen volume slider that stays on view during playback because changing the volume when your
iPad is on a music stand and you have an instrument in your hands is very difficult because you have to steady the device with one hand and use the volume button on the other side.

Please could you add a funk style for tunes like The Chicken and all the other cool funk tunes that jazz and big bands play?

If the 'rock' styles could be improved that would be a bonus but not essential!

Thanks for reading!
Lisa.

Latin swing update

Hi again, I forgot to mention when asking for a slider for the volume and a funk style that it would be nice if the Latin swing style kept up the Latin swing style after the first pass through the song. It's very frustrating that it just stays in swing mode. When you play say 'Night in Tunisia' with other musicians, you still keep alternating between the styles even when people are improvising, not just during the head. Thanks for all your hard work, it's the best app on the planet!!!

1)Offbeat chords might work if you put 8 spaces in a bar of 4/4 (6 in 3/4 etc)and just put the chords on the odd spaces.
You might need to put NC on the even beats.

Good idea, but unfortunately it does not work. If you put in the 8 spaces and put a chord change in the 8th position (i.e. at "4 and") it still changes chord on the 4.

Hello,

Thanks for this great app.
I have just bought the extension to see the piano chords and have two comments:

1. It would be great to see chords as written in a score, because I find dots on a keyboard hard to read.
2. It would be great to be able to see the chords with the voicing/tensions actually being used in the current song, rather than generic voicing.

Thanks,

Feature request

We use this ipad app in performances and it's almost perfect. Would like to have a way to have the app progress automatically to the next song in the playlist with an adjustable timer to space the time between songs. Then we could concentrate on the performance and not the iPad.

this probably is not what you would want, but might be useful for study - you can export the midi file of a song (from the Player window) then import it into Notation software (for instance Sibelius on your computer, or a notation app if you have an iPad) then view the voicings.
BTW, our Player engine is randomized to some extent so if you render another midi file of the same song, the voicings might be different for the same chords. You will find this also if the song is played a few times through before ending, each chorus it may generate different voicings.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Mirror iReal b

Hi! Could iReal b be part of the apps for iOS than can be "mirrored" ?
Very useful to magnify the score with a projector when playing.
Regards.

Hi again, I forgot to mention when asking for a slider for the volume and a funk style that it would be nice if the Latin swing style kept up the Latin swing style after the first pass through the song.
Lisa, I export a WAV, bring it into Adobe Audition (any basic audio editor will do) and cut and paste the sections as needed. It's a bit of work but then I have the arrangement i wanted.

I import into iTunes and use Big Button to playback one at a time, or switch back to iReal b as needed. A bit clumsy, but it works and is WAY easier than re-writing the chart...

How about double time and half time feel for all styles . I don't think it should be a probem which is just configuring the coding for the tempo setting. You dont have to create a new style from scratch.
And also in the editor window it could be nice to choose a section or the whole song and extend or compress the harmonic rhythm(duration of the chords) so that if the chart is too long or too busy looking you can change it.....

About Funk Patterns...

Just a comment to those who want more funk. The problem is, most funk grooves originate from a specific bass/drum pattern that is unique to each song. Play I Feel Good and The Chicken and maybe a Rick James tune - there is no one pattern that will give you a feel you can live with (I've tried to find something like this for a different system. I couldn't find a solution.)

But see for yourself, take your four favorite funk tunes by four different artists, and find a common B&D groove. Good luck...

Now what you CAN do to a VERY limited amount (quarter or eighth notes - quarter notes and the whole song double time.) Use the red circle chord(less) to play just the bass, N.C. for holes. IF YOU CAN FIT THE SONG ON THE PAGE at double tempo-every real-time bar requires 2 iRb bars - you can sometimes find work-around combinations of rhythms and bass patterns that can, if not imitate, at least inspire.

Good luck, and if you get some good ones - SHARE please...

I noticed that the iOS version is able to browse songs by style, such as bossa, ballad, etc. This functionality would be greatly appreciated in the Android version of the app. My saxophone professor has this app on the iPhone and showed me how he can find all the ballads from the list, and it would be awesome if I could do that with my Android device as well.
