How to know if a song is Public Domain?

We do have the Traditional setting for Composer but that's really a different thing. Lots of PD songs have unknown composers but with many the composer is known.

With the crackdown in recent years by the RIAA of businesses that have music it's useful to be able to assure the owner you will only play PD music. Which is quite doable with folk, classical and bluegrass musicians.

Thought I would mention that the venue will have to pay the RIAA for you to play copywritten music unless it is Public Domain.
Wondering if we should/could have a Public Domain list for users?

While the original song may be PD, someone might assert that the version you perform is in fact, protected by a copyright holder. The fact that someone checked a PD box offers you scant protection.

For your recorded product, YOU are responsible for ensuring your material is either licensed or license-free.
iRp is not part of that process.
For performance, the responsibility is the venue's. Having a PRO license for the venue is the answer. Which PRO license(s) is the question.
