Well, although my response is three years late, this may be the reason Richard received no response.

There is more than one song called I Love You. The one recorded by Coleman Hawkins in 1947 was the one by Harry Archer and Harlan Thompson, not the one by Cole Porter.

This one is also sung in the film Stalag 17.

There are a number of charts for the Harry Archer-Harlan Thompson song

There’s one in a playlist posted here:

A number of artists recorded both songs including Frank Sinatra and Perry Como.
According to AllMusic, the Hawk recorded I Love You several times that were not attributed to a composer on the album. I suppose it’s possible that one could have been the Porter tune… I couldn’t find it…

Bob,

Yes, I searched, too, to see if Hawkins recorded the Porter tune, thinking perhaps I might have been wrong. But the only 1947 recording of his I could find was the Archer-Thompson song.

If the poster had followed the guidelines for posting his query, we wouldn’t have the confusion,
He should have first searched the forums.
He should have included a YouTube.
Doing those two things would likely have caught his error.
That and failing to label his post so that helpful members could find it certainly didn’t lead to success.

I’ll fix many query posts that don’t follow the guidelines but some are just removed.
The poster is then PM’d the instructions and they usually fail to repost their query.

You can lead a horse…
